Nile University Celebrates Graduation of 14 Students from Professional Diploma in Water Treatment and Reuse Technologies Management

In alignment with Nile University’s dedication to fostering innovation and scientific research to tackle environmental challenges, the School of Technology Management hosted the graduation ceremony for 14 students from the Professional Diploma in Water Treatment and Reuse Technologies Management. This milestone event forms part of the SafeAgroMENA Project, a collaborative initiative with the Water and Development Partnership Program of IHE Delft Institute, aimed at advancing sustainable water and agricultural practices across the Middle East and North Africa region.

The ceremony commenced with an inspiring welcome address by Dr. Heba Labib, Assistant Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Nile University. Dr. Labib commended the graduates for their dedication and underscored the critical need to pursue sustainable solutions in water management and agriculture, stating, “Your efforts today lay the foundation for a resilient future where innovation drives environmental stewardship.”

Eng. Asmaa Ahmed, SafeAgroMENA Project Manager at Nile University and Deputy Director of the Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Competitiveness Center (IECC), delivered a comprehensive overview of the project’s vision. She highlighted its pivotal role in addressing water scarcity challenges prevalent in the region, while also addressing emerging contaminants—their sources and detrimental impacts on water quality stemming from negative practices. Eng. Ahmed detailed the diverse activities undertaken by the project team and reaffirmed their ongoing commitment to awareness-raising efforts, emphasizing, “By confronting these issues head-on, we empower communities to safeguard water resources for reuse and sustainable agriculture.”

Dr. Al-Hassan Al-Sabri, the Diploma Coordinator, elaborated on the program’s educational objectives and academic curriculum, outlining how it equips participants with essential skills for effective water treatment and reuse. The session also featured heartfelt testimonials from select graduates, who shared personal insights into the program’s transformative influence on their professional trajectories, illustrating its real-world applicability in environmental and agricultural sectors.

A highlight of the day was a keynote talk by Dr. Tarek Khalil, Founding President of Nile University. Drawing from his extensive experience, Dr. Khalil offered sage guidance to the new graduates, stressing the pillars of innovation and lifelong learning in navigating future challenges. “Embrace continuous growth,” he advised, “as it is the key to unlocking solutions that will shape a sustainable tomorrow.”

In their closing remarks, Dr. Johansen Eid, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Mohamed Ezzat, Acting Dean of the Graduate Studies College, both reiterated the strategic importance of capacity-building in water resource management. They called for harnessing human potential to catalyze tangible change, with Dr. Eid noting, “Investing in minds like yours is investing in the health of our ecosystems and economies.”

The event culminated in the proud distribution of certificates amid an atmosphere of jubilation and accomplishment, followed by an interactive networking session. This platform facilitated knowledge exchange and collaboration among attendees, nurturing professional networks in water, agriculture, and sustainable development.

Funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Water and Development Partnership Program of IHE Delft, the SafeAgroMENA Project underscores a shared commitment to promoting eco-friendly agricultural practices and resilient water systems in the MENA region.
